Family Bike: Ideal for Anyone Going Out With Children
Cortina family bikes have important features that make them perfectly suited for use as a mom and dad bike.

When to Choose a Family Bike
But what exactly is the difference between a family bike and a regular bike? And when should you opt for an electric family bike? On this page, we’ll help guide you through yet another decision in parenthood: choosing the perfect family bike for your needs!
What Is a Family Bike?
A family bike is essentially a regular bike, but with some key differences. These adjustments may not be immediately visible, but they provide added comfort and safety when you’re cycling with your child(ren) and luggage.
- Low step-through frame: Makes it easier to get on and off the bike — super convenient!
- Extra space between saddle and handlebars: You may not notice it visually, but you'll feel the difference — especially with a front-mounted child seat. No more awkwardly squeezing into the saddle; just sit down comfortably with extra room. It also makes getting off the bike safer and easier.
- Higher load capacity: While regular bikes can carry up to 120 kg, family bikes support up to 170 kg.
- Wider handlebars: These give you more room for a front child seat and better control while steering.
- Double kickstand: You’ve arrived at your destination and want to park your bike — but the single kickstand makes the bike tilt, which is tricky with a child and groceries on board. The double kickstand solves this problem, keeping the bike stable and upright.
- Steering lock: Handy when parking — it prevents the handlebars from turning unexpectedly.
- Rear carrier: Essential when your child transitions from a front seat to a rear seat. The rear carriers on Cortina family bikes are compatible with almost all types of child seats. Electric family bikes require a separate adapter for this.
- Optional front carrier: A front carrier is useful for carrying bags. On regular city bikes, the child seat footrests often get in the way of the front rack. On the Cortina U4 Transport Family, the front carrier is positioned slightly forward to allow enough room for footrests.
