When choosing a new bike, there are many decisions to be made, such as the type of riding position you want, how many gears you need, and whether you want backpedal brakes and/or hand brakes. Once you've finally found the bike that suits your needs, you still need to determine the correct frame size.

To determine the right frame size, it's best to test it at your local bike shop. When you have a bike with the correct frame size, you'll be able to ride comfortably, apply power effectively, and easily touch the ground with your feet. If you want to check whether the bike you're interested in is available in the correct frame size or if you prefer to order it online, we’re here to help you find the right fit.

How to Calculate the Correct Frame Size:

You will need:

  • A tape measure or ruler (in centimeters)
  • A calculator or the calculator app on your phone
  • Yourself
  • Someone to assist you
  • Optionally, your current bike (to compare if necessary)

Step 1: Measure Your Inseam Length

To determine the frame size, you need to measure your inseam. Stand with your feet about 15 cm apart (without shoes if possible) and measure from the ground up along the inside of your leg to your crotch area. This might be tricky to do by yourself, so it's best to have someone help.

Step 2: Calculate the Ideal Frame Size

Once you have your inseam measurement, grab your calculator. Take your inseam length in centimeters and multiply it by 0.68 (or 68%). This gives you the ideal frame size in centimeters.

The saddle is usually adjustable in height, which means you can fine-tune it further to suit your preferences. If the frame size falls between two options, you can adjust the saddle to better fit you.

Calculate your frame size with your current bike

If you already have a bike and are satisfied with the height of your current bike, you can also measure the frame size of your current bike. To do this, measure the height from the center of the bottom bracket to the top of the frame – where the seat tube comes out of the frame.

Not every bike is available in every frame size. Additionally, not all frame sizes are made in every exact centimeter, so it’s possible that your perfect frame size isn’t available. The best option is to test the frame size at a store nearby. Based on your personal preference, you can then choose to round up or down. Generally, if you use the bike for city riding, commuting from point A to B, or touring, it's best to round up for more comfort. If you’re a sporty cyclist, rounding down is better for more agility and better power transfer.
